Day 47: Leaving is not so easy!

We arrived at Christchurch Airport to discover that our ten hour flight would be further delayed by two hours but at least we were given vouchers for our breakfast.

Once on the plane we settled in with our first selection of movies, when the Captain made an announcement and our 'entertainment systems' crashed, never to recover.  The steward tried all he could but it wasn't to be so I had to be content with my puzzle book whilst Tony finished the book he had bought in the airport!

The delay meant we arrived at pristine Changi Airport in the dark and were efficiently processed through immigration and customs which meant our luggage was waiting for us and we were straight into a taxi and on our way to Taman Serasi and Cary and Yu-Yen's apartment, close to the Botanical Gardens.

The taxi driver shared stories with Tony about the changes in the island since Tony had been here with the RAF in the seventies.  The driver had done his two years' national service just two years after Tony had left and knew of Tengah Base where Tony had been based.  He made the journey from the airport both interesting and entertaining, pointing out places we might like to visit whilst here.

Once at the apartment, it was lovely to see Cary again and to meet Yu-Yen.  We passed the evening catching up before the jet lag caught up and we retired to bed.  It is extremely warm and humid here and we were glad of the air-conditioning in the bedroom.  The apartment has full length fold back doors on the balcony so a welcome breeze sweeps through.  There are huge trees around the several blocks in this complex and they are almost as tall as the apartments.  It gives a feeling of being up in the canopy and there is the constant sound of birds.  This is very different to where we have been but exciting nonetheless.  We are looking forward to exploring tomorrow!
