Day 5: Not the Gold Coast

In light of the heat and the distance, and the Gold Coast being akin to a sunny Blackpool, we decided against driving to the Gold Coast today and instead we went with Christina's suggestion to drive down to the local beach at Manly and walk there along the Esplanade.

Christina navigated and we were soon parked up by a very inviting looking wading pool.  The esplanade was lines with more fantastic trees and had me wishing I had the internet to check out their names.  They certainly provided much needed shade.  There were also mangroves on the sea side of the path.

As we neared the Marina at Manly, I spotted my first pelican and took several photos as it flew above the shore below us.  We turned round at the bay, conscious that Christina is still recovering from illness, and aware that the heat of the day was now full on.  She suggested we lunch at the Pelican Bay Cafe on fish and chips so we sat under their awning, enjoying the breeze and beautifully cooked fish.  We have quickly learned to slow right down (which doesn't come easy to me!) as the heat is so debilitating.  I'm hoping that New Zealand will be a little more forgiving!
